Fosinos A largely seaside country, surrounded to the east, west, and north by oceans. Most of this country is rather high in elevation, with the coasts having steep cliffs that drop off directly into the choppy waters below. There are some sandy beaches with coastal terraces on the western-most part of the country, especially towards the far south. In particular, there is a long strip of sandy white beaches that reaches the far southern edge where Auron begins. This sandy coastline is known as whitestone shores. Sat high atop the cliffs are vast, windswept grasslands spotted with many fields and farms. Shrines to Geist are common in the grasslands, with colorful kites often flying high in the sky above. These grassy fields are known as zephyr plains, and are where one can find most of Fosinos' population outside the capital city in small, rural villages. To the far east, atop a large sea stack, sits the nation's capital, a well-known city by the name of Lior. It is considered the most peaceful and prosperous city in the world, with a busy port and many welcoming shops and marketplaces. At it's center sits a large castle where the king, Ulrich Lior, rules from. Besides the capital, Fosinos has no other large cities. Just off the southeastern coast lies what's known as the phantom spires; large, natural stone pillars which have been known to sink even the most durable of ships. Even airships are not safe, as the spires reach high into the sky and the ever-present dense fog makes it impossible to avoid them all. In the far northwestern corner of Fosinos sits sunglow woods. Though known for it's beauty, this deciduous forest can be quite dangerous. In the deepest parts of these woods you may find yourself stumbling into the paths of giant bears, fully-grown starspinners, and even worryx. Wild griffins can even be found nesting along the far northwestern edge, where the forest meets the oceanside cliffs. Last but not least, there's dimlight marsh. Bordering both Auron and Te'tunga, this vast swampland covers a large portion of the southern-most half of Fosinos. It has a range of subregions, including saltmarshes and mangroves to the far east of the marsh, a dense cypress swamp to the west, and a shallow marsh stretching across the middle. To reach Fosinos on foot, one must cross the dimlight marsh. There is a well-known path through the shallow marsh area that many take which is marked by large boulders, but even so, it's said that you should never try to traverse the marsh at night. At night, dimly glowing lights drift about the marsh, and it's said that those who get too close to these lights will find themselves unable to control their bodies. These lights will lure their hypnotized victims deep into the cypress swamps, where boggarts are known to dwell. |
