Lior Known as the City of Light, this massive city is the capital of Fosinos. It sits atop a large sea stack, which is only attached to the mainland by a single stone bridge. The city itself is surrounded by very tall walls made of a smooth, off-white, massive stone bricks. On the far southwest, northwest, and southeast points of the wall sit three massive stone towers, which each have a large glimmering ball of light at the very top. There is a similar tower with a matching ball of light in the center of the castle, which sits at the heart of Lior. The buildings that line the streets of this city are packed tightly together, with only a few small alleys between them. Many of these buildings are several stories high. There are five main roads through the city, each of which are big enough to fit several wagons at a time, but even so, they are often very busy and crowded. There are plenty of smaller roads to take through the city, but these cramped spaces are often dark and therefore prime locations for pickpockets. The main roads separate the city into quarters, which are then further separated into the inner circle and outer circle. The northeastern segment of Lior is known as the mage quarter, as it's largely inhabited by mages. The inner circle of the mage quarter is the perfect place to shop for anything a mage might need, from magic-repellent cloaks and self-writing pens to potions and herbs for brewing said potions. The outer circle of the mage quarter is home to the Arcanum guildhall, a place where many go to study magic in peace and safety. Unlike the rest of the city, which is well-lit at all times thanks to their towers and giant balls of white light, the mage quarter only has the light of small floating lanterns to light their streets, which give the quarter an eerie purple hue. The southeastern segment of Lior is the trade quarter, with the outer circle being home to any and all kind of shop you can think of, and the inner circle housing more up-scale, pricey shops that put emphasis on quality over quantity. The bridge into the city connects directly to the main road leading through the center of this quarter. The city's southwestern segment is known as the divine quarter, which is where one will find both the Sundial Colosseum and the guildhall of the Knights of Lior in the inner circle, as well as several theaters, a cathedral, and temples to each deity in the outer circle. One has to pass through a temple dedicated to Telmira in order to travel the long path down the side of the sea stack to the city's harbor. Lastly is the northwest segment, which is the residential quarter. As one might expect, the inner circle is largely dominated by extravagant mansions, while the outer circle is packed tightly with cheap townhomes and apartments. Residential homes can also be found scattered about the other segments of the city, but the northwest quarter by far has the largest number of them. Lior is known throughout the lands as a prosperous and peaceful city. It is a hub for traders from all across the world, and has been that way for many generations. It was built by and named after the first king of Fosinos, a name which has been passed down the family line for years and is still used as the royal family's surname to this day. |
