Instrumental Casting By far one of the most common modern forms of spellcasting, this style is used by first finding a vessel in which to hold magic. Anything from the material to the size and shape can affect how much magic a vessel can hold. Now, a vessel itself is useless unless one can pull magic from Zalikos' realm to put in it. To get around this limitation, many people seek out objects which can pull from the realm on their own, therefore slowly gathering magic on their own and keeping it stored for later use. Said objects are fairly rare and hard to find, however. The most common vessels, by far, are crystals from the gemstone tundra. These crystals, depending on their size and shape, can gather and store a good bit of magic. The crystal flowers, in particular, are known to hold vast amounts of magic. Once one has a suitable vessel with magic inside, it's possible to cast a spell simply by waving the vessel around and willing the magic inside into the shape of the spell you want. However, the strength and complexity of the spell is highly limited. It's extremely common, and often encouraged, for people to use this style in tandem with other spellcasting styles to allow for more complexity and power. In particular, many chose to embed their vessel into another object, such as a ring, wand, staff, or even something like a lute. These objects must be either enchanted or inscribed with runes to properly accept and work with the vessel, but once done, these objects can be used to better control the magic within the vessel and increase both it's capacity and strength. |
