Oratus

Oratus

This large city is the capital of Auron, and sits across both sides of Telmira's bay. To deal with the annual flooding, the people of this city have built deep canals all throughout it. The areas that don't have canals are built on stilts.

Oratus is split into two different halves, one on the western side of the bay, and the other on the eastern side. The eastern side is made entirely of large stone bricks that are decorated with colorful paints and engraved patterns. The buildings are large and designed to look luxurious in every way. Small, lush decorative gardens can be seen on nearly every corner. These gardens are used to show wealth in the largely barren nation of Auron. In the middle of all these opulent buildings, on the very edge of the bay, sits the biggest mansion of all, where the royal family that rules Auron lives.

The western side is comprised of many small wood buildings, most of which are more shanties than actual buildings. They are built on stilts to avoid the floods, with bridges built to connect the buildings together. Even these bridges are shoddy at best, though. It's said that the Rondirans have a guildhall hidden somewhere amongst all the shacks and hovels of the western side of Oratus.

Though the people of Oratus have tried to mask it for many years, it is still fairly common knowledge that the city is plagued by crime. Pickpockets and thieves are an everyday occurrence, and both pirates and bandits regularly pass through or even make themselves at home in the city. The royal family has always been more interested in keeping their own property and wealth safe rather than keeping their citizens safe, and some even say that the family themselves are corrupt and have made deals with criminals in the past.
