Aven Race Bonus: +1 level to Agility and +1 level to Adaptability Ability: Flight Appearance These humanoids look almost exactly like Commonfolk, but they have large, feathered wings on their backs that they can fly with. It's also possible for them to have feathers on their arms, legs, necks, and/or faces. Though their skin can only be earthen colors, like the commonfolk they look most similar to, their hair usually matches the color of their wings, which can be anything from neutral colors like beige, gray, or brown to vibrant colors like blue, yellow, or purple. Their feathers and hair can sometimes even be iridescent. The feathers of avens are known to be highly unique from individual to individual, and can be used to identify them. Their feathers can vary in width, height, roundness, coloring, and patterning. Every time a feather is shed it grows back exactly the same as it once was. History & Culture Aven are commonly believed to have once been commonfolk, but were changed by the goddess Geist after winning one of her games. The story says that, even though she lost, the goddess enjoyed the game so much that she gave everyone who participated in it wings so that they could visit her again amongst the clouds. Many aven choose to worship Geist over Theatis because of this old tale. Games are a big part of their culture, and many are highly competitive. However, unlike their favorite goddess, they usually play by the rules. They value their freedom to roam and were once a nomadic people. Even now, it's rare to find an aven that has settled down into one location for longer than a year. Because of this, they have no real government or even a territory to call their own. Instead, they move freely from one land to another in small groups with a single leader who's appointed by a group vote. |
